Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti have agreed to strengthen Balochistan's Safe City projects through joint initiatives, institutional cooperation, and technical support. The goal of the partnership is to bring these projects in line with modern security requirements.

According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, Maryam Nawaz directed relevant authorities to provide institutional support to the Balochistan Safe City Authority following a request from Bugti. The two provinces also agreed to improve security monitoring systems and technical collaboration through a joint venture between their respective Safe City authorities.

The understanding was reached during a meeting of the Balochistan Safe City Authority chaired by Chief Minister Bugti. During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Home Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat provided a briefing on the progress of ongoing projects, stating that work on Safe City schemes is currently underway in nine cities across the province.

Director General Punjab Safe City Authority Ahsan Younas stated that the Punjab authority would provide training, capacity-building support, and advanced technical assistance to Balochistan's personnel. This support is intended to help operationalise and strengthen Safe City projects throughout the province.

Addressing the meeting participants, Bugti said Safe City projects are not merely surveillance systems but are a modern security infrastructure designed to safeguard the lives and property of citizens. He emphasized that advanced technology and effective security monitoring are essential for maintaining law and order, preventing crime, and ensuring a safe environment for residents. Bugti added that modern monitoring systems would assist law enforcement agencies in tracking the movement of criminal elements, identifying suspicious activities in a timely manner, and improving emergency response capabilities.
