The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded the immediate transfer of incarcerated founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for independent medical treatment. The party stated that Khan's blood pressure reached 192 in recent days, leading to calls for him to be treated under the supervision of his personal physicians.
The demand follows a meeting on November 2 between Imran Khan and his lawyer at Adiala jail. During this meeting, the former prime minister reportedly expressed concerns regarding his health. Following the meeting, Imran's sister, Rubina Khan, stated on November 3 that her brother conveyed through his lawyer that his blood pressure had shot up to 192.
Rubina Khan alleged that Imran Khan accused authorities of failing to provide him with proper medical treatment. She noted that the lawyer was only allowed to meet Imran briefly after seven months, asserting that access to a lawyer is a basic right for every prisoner. She stated that Imran Khan had never had high blood pressure and that his blood pressure was normal as recently as a year ago. According to Rubina Khan, the family’s medical advisers consider it unusual for someone over 70 to suddenly develop high blood pressure.
"As his family, we demand that he be immediately admitted to an independent medical institution in Islamabad for proper treatment, in the presence of his personal doctor and a doctor of my choice," Rubina Khan said. She also referenced statements from the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, UN experts, the UN Committee Against Torture, and Amnesty International regarding Imran's detention and treatment. She further alleged that the Supreme Court's August 2026 decision, which required immediate medical treatment at Shifa hospital, had not been implemented.
Rubina Khan also alleged there had been multiple previous attempts on her brother's life, including an assassination attempt, and stated the family fears for his safety in prison. She warned that if he does not receive medical treatment now, "anything that happens to him would amount to cold-blooded murder."
Sharing his aunt's statement on X, Imran's son Kasim stated that the high blood pressure is not normal and is the "direct result of this isolation." He added that if Imran is not freed soon, "he will die in this cell."
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja described the situation as an "extremely alarming matter." He stated that the party needs to adopt an effective strategy regarding the health of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi that is not based "merely on excitement and anger." He noted that every doubt and apprehension must be eliminated and that a "full-force voice" will be raised inside and outside the country after consultations with authorized bodies.
Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram also expressed grave concern over the repeated fluctuations in Imran's blood pressure. He demanded the immediate implementation of the Supreme Court's August 18 order to transfer Imran to Shifa International Hospital. Akram accused the government of endangering the life and fundamental rights of the country's most popular political leader by denying him adequate medical facilities, access to his family, and treatment of his choice.
Akram also called for the release of Imran, Bushra Bibi, and all political prisoners in Kot Lakhpat jail and elsewhere. He condemned raids on PTI ministers in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and what he described as violations of the sanctity of homes in Punjab and K-P, stating that "political victimisation and repression must end."
