Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced on Wednesday that it will launch three weekly direct flights between Islamabad and Birmingham starting December 1. A PIA spokesperson stated the airline is expanding its UK network to assist Pakistani residents living in the northern and central parts of Britain.
The flights are scheduled to operate initially on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Birmingham Airport (@bhx_official) posted on November 3, 2026, that the airline is returning to the airport on December 1, 2026, due to high demand from travelers in the Midlands.
A PIA spokesperson noted that the UK is an important destination for the carrier, and the airline aims to increase the total number of weekly flights between Pakistan and the UK to 23.
The airline has been expanding its operations recently. On September 3, PIA decided to increase its weekly flights to London to seven, starting October 27. According to a spokesperson, the national flag carrier will operate daily flights between Pakistan and London, which includes five weekly flights between Islamabad and London and two between Lahore and London. The spokesperson stated this increase reflects growing passenger demand and confidence in the national airline.
PIA resumed direct flights to Britain in October last year, following the end of a five-year suspension by UK authorities regarding aviation safety concerns. The carrier was previously barred from flying to Britain, the European Union, and the United States in June 2020. This ban occurred one month after an Airbus A320 aircraft crashed into a Karachi neighborhood, killing nearly 100 people. The crash was blamed on human error.
