Authorities admitted Noreen Niazi to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore on 28 October after her health declined while she was being held in custody.

Niazi has been detained since 21 September under Section 3 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, 1960, following orders from the Lahore deputy commissioner. Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah stated that Niazi was imprisoned because she allegedly intended to cause national unrest and planned to attack Islamabad during a long march.

The Prime Minister said the government would investigate reports that Niazi's relatives were not permitted to see her and would attempt to ensure they are granted access. Sanaullah claimed that Niazi was provided with medical facilities immediately and that her current medical tests are normal.

The Prime Minister added that reports regarding the ground situation, including food and other services, have been submitted to the Supreme Court. Sanaullah noted that the matter is sub judice and stated that because the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has appealed to the courts, they should seek relief from the judiciary.

Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram described the management of Niazi's medical emergency as "callous and inhumane". Akram also claimed that the transfer of Niazi to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology without notifying her family was alarming. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar previously stated that Imran Khan was declared medically fit and returned to Adiala jail.

Other individuals, including Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, have also been in detention since 21 September.
