Key Takeaways

  • ICC confirmed dates for 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup in Pakistan.
  • Event to take place from September 7 to October 1, 2028.
  • Men’s T20 World Cup to follow in Australia and New Zealand.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the dates for the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup in Pakistan, setting the stage for a significant cricketing event. The tournament will run from September 7 to October 1, 2028, marking a crucial milestone for Pakistani cricket.

This confirmation comes as part of an updated schedule for major international cricket events between 2027 and 2031, which was shared with member boards following ICC meetings in Dubai earlier this month. The revised calendar includes 12 men’s, seven women’s, and five Under-19 events, including qualifying tournaments.

The Women’s T20 World Cup will be followed by the Men’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand from October 12 to November 12, 2028. This tight schedule underscores the importance of the upcoming events for national teams and players.

Cricket will return to the Olympics for the first time since 1900, with the United States eligible for direct qualification in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The USA men’s team, currently ranked 13th, is on track to qualify directly. However, the women’s team, ranked 19th, could miss out if it fails to meet the qualification requirement.

The USA women’s team must have been ranked among the top 15 in their respective T20I rankings between June 30 and December 31, 2026, to secure a spot. If the women’s team does not qualify automatically, the available spot will be decided based on the standings at the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy in India in February 2027. Australia, India, South Africa, and Great Britain have already secured places in the women’s Olympic tournament.

The highest-ranked eligible men’s teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania will qualify directly based on the December 31, 2026, rankings. Both Olympic qualifying tournaments will feature eight teams, although their venues have not yet been announced.

The ICC has also confirmed that the 2029 World Test Championship (WTC) final will take place in England from June 8 to 12. Additionally, the 2030 Men’s T20 World Cup, to be jointly hosted by England, Ireland, and Scotland, has been moved from June to July and August. Further details regarding tournament venues and qualification arrangements will be announced later.

These confirmations and revisions highlight the ICC’s commitment to expanding the global reach of cricket and ensuring fair and transparent qualification processes for international tournaments.
