The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has apprehended two individuals in Karachi for allegedly impersonating senior Pakistan Army and government officers to defraud citizens, according to a statement from the NCCIA.
The suspects, identified as Muzammil, son of Badruddin Qureshi, and Hamza, son of Muhammad Aslam, were arrested during an operation in the Korangi Industrial Area.
Officials stated that the suspects falsely claimed to have connections and influence within the military and government departments, misusing the name and reputation of the Pakistan Army to gain the trust of citizens.
The suspects reportedly collected large sums of money by promising to arrange transfers, appointments, and other official matters through their claimed connections, according to the NCCIA.
According to the NCCIA, the suspects deceived citizens by presenting themselves as authorized military officers and making false promises to get official work done.
A case has been registered against both suspects under FIR No. 114/2026, citing Section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Sections 13, 14, and 16 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendment Act 2025.
The NCCIA's operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat such fraudulent activities and protect citizens from being deceived by impostors.
The arrest of these suspects serves as a warning to others who may attempt to impersonate government officials for financial gain.
