The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has taken significant steps to combat the spread of fake news and anti-state propaganda, setting up special units dedicated to these tasks. These units are designed to monitor and prevent the dissemination of harmful content across various digital platforms.
During a five-day tour of all circles in Punjab, Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi inspected reporting centres, police stations, and offices, and held direct meetings with over 500 complainants. The aim was to ensure that all resources are being effectively utilised to provide prompt justice to the public.
Rizvi highlighted the importance of a people-friendly complaints and verification system, emphasizing the need for timely justice for victims of cybercrime. He also stressed the importance of transparency and merit-based investigation, directing officers to further improve overall performance, disposal of complaints, and record maintenance.
The NCCIA DG directed that the agency adopt a zero-tolerance policy against fake news and anti-state propaganda, ensuring that there would be no compromise on merit and transparency. This approach is aimed at maintaining the integrity of the digital space and protecting the interests of the public.
Throughout the tour, Rizvi reviewed the overall working of the circles, the pendency of complaints and cases, the working of the investigation branch, the complaint cell, the FIR branch, and the maintenance of records. He issued instructions for further improving performance, disposal, and record maintenance.
The measures taken by the NCCIA are part of a broader strategy to enhance the agency’s capabilities in dealing with cyber threats. The special units will play a crucial role in monitoring and addressing the spread of fake news and anti-state propaganda, ensuring a safer and more secure digital environment for the public.
