The government has announced an increase in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs1.91 per litre, effective from October 24 to 26, 2026, while keeping the price of petrol unchanged. This adjustment follows a series of changes in global oil markets and regulatory updates.
According to a press release issued by the Petroleum Division, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the federal government’s pricing mechanism. The new HSD price stands at Rs393.66 per litre, up from the previous Rs391.75 per litre.
This adjustment is in line with global developments, including changes in Platts rates, premiums, and incidentals. The government had previously increased the HSD price by Rs1.64 per litre and reduced the petrol price by Rs1.60 per litre on Thursday.
Globally, oil prices saw a rise on Friday, with Brent crude reaching a more than five-month high. Brent crude futures gained $1.40, or 1.2%, to $114.57 a barrel by 1138 GMT, having earlier touched $115, the highest level since May 4. US West Texas Intermediate crude also gained $1.48, or 1.5%, to $100.95.
The increase in diesel prices is expected to affect various sectors, including transportation and manufacturing, which rely heavily on HSD. However, the unchanged petrol price is likely to provide some relief to consumers, particularly those using personal vehicles.
The government’s decision to keep petrol prices stable amid rising global oil prices reflects a balance between economic considerations and consumer affordability. The move is seen as a strategic approach to manage inflationary pressures while maintaining stability in the energy market.
Consumers and businesses are advised to monitor the latest prices and plan accordingly. The government will continue to monitor global oil markets and make necessary adjustments to ensure the stability of the energy sector.
