Gen Z Most Concerned About Digital Infrastructure’s Environmental Impact
Gen Z members are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of digital technologies.

Key Takeaways

  • Gen Z identified as the most digitally immersed generation.
  • 20% of Gen Z respondents see environmental damage from digital infrastructure as a future risk.
  • Awareness of green data centers among Gen Z is growing.

On International E-Waste Day, a survey by Kaspersky revealed that Generation Z (Gen Z) is the most digitally immersed generation, with 59 percent of respondents feeling confident in the digital environment.

However, the survey also highlighted a paradox: while Gen Z is deeply integrated into digital technology, they are increasingly aware of its environmental costs.

According to Kaspersky’s research, 20 percent of Gen Z respondents identified environmental damage caused by digital infrastructure as a risk for future generations, the highest proportion among all generations surveyed globally.

Similarly, 22 percent of Gen Z pointed to overconsumption and increasing waste as a concern, compared with 19 percent globally.

Despite these concerns, some Gen Z members are aware of green data centers, with 11 percent identifying them as a promising trend for the future.

The findings suggest that as Gen Z becomes a significant consumer and workforce demographic, their awareness of the environmental impact of digital technologies could drive demand for more sustainable solutions.

Kaspersky’s research indicates that Gen Z’s expectations could influence the future of the technology industry, potentially leading to greater demand for environmentally friendly practices.

As this generation continues to grow in importance as consumers and decision-makers, their awareness of the environmental impact of digital technologies could contribute to a shift towards more sustainable practices in the tech sector.
