Key Takeaways

  • Fauji Cement reported a 51% year-over-year increase in net profit for Q1FY27.
  • Exports were significantly impacted by the Afghan border closure, reducing overall dispatches by 5%.
  • Net sales grew 11% year-over-year, driven by a 12% increase in local dispatches.

Fauji Cement Company Limited (FCCL) has reported a net profit of Rs. 4.96 billion for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27 (1QFY27), marking a 51% increase from the same period last year. However, the company noted a 5% decrease in overall dispatches, primarily due to the Afghan border closure, which has significantly impacted its export operations.

Despite the challenges, FCCL managed to achieve a 12% increase in local dispatches, contributing to a 11% growth in net sales. The company’s earnings per share (EPS) stood at Rs. 2.02, aligning with market expectations.

Gross margins improved to 36%, driven by higher cement retention prices and cost optimization initiatives, including the government’s incremental electricity consumption package and in-house production of polypropylene (PP) bags. Distribution expenses increased by 17% due to higher oil prices, which pushed up transportation costs.

Finance costs saw a significant decline of 42% quarter over quarter, reflecting early debt repayment during the quarter. Long-term and short-term borrowings decreased by 10% and 92% respectively, indicating a reduction in financial liabilities.

The effective tax rate for the quarter was 38%, slightly higher than the 37.9% in the corresponding period last year but lower than the 22.8% in the previous quarter. This suggests a more favorable tax environment in the recent past.

FCCL’s performance highlights the company’s resilience in adapting to market conditions. While the Afghan border closure has posed a challenge, the company’s focus on local markets and cost optimization has helped mitigate some of the negative impacts.

The company remains optimistic about its future prospects, emphasizing the importance of diversifying its market reach and continuing to implement cost-saving measures. However, the ongoing situation with the Afghan border remains a critical factor in its export strategy.
