The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is organising the fifth annual Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit this week, which will gather hundreds of global finance leaders.
Tuesday’s main conference will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel, where Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu is scheduled to deliver the keynote address. Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po is also slated to speak during the Tuesday proceedings. The gathering will conclude on Wednesday with an investment forum.
Approximately 280 delegates are expected to attend, including around 120 group chairmen and chief executives. Barclays group CEO C.S. Venkatakrishnan is returning to the summit after missing the past two years. Morgan Stanley CEO Ted Pick and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon will also return to the stage on Tuesday.
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley co-led the initial public offering of SpaceX, which was valued at US$75 billion in June. Blackstone president Jon Gray and Pimco CEO Emmanuel Roman will reunite on stage. Vice-Premier He Lifeng will deliver the opening keynote by video.
HKMA chief executive Eddie Yue Wai-man will moderate a panel of mainland financial regulators. The summit follows the Hong Kong government's unveiling of its first five-year plan in September. Hong Kong hosted its first Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Finance Ministers’ Meeting on October 20 and 21.
Finance chiefs from 21 economies agreed on wider access to financial services and closer macroeconomic policy coordination during that meeting.
Ong said the forum offers international executives a direct window into Hong Kong’s “expanding competitive edges”, notably in digital assets, cross-border payments, offshore yuan instruments, physical gold storage and international legal arbitration. Chan said he hopes the discussion would explore how the city could direct patient capital from sovereign wealth funds, family offices and insurers into regional infrastructure and real economy projects without compromising risk frameworks.
