Pakistan and Turkiye have signed a significant agreement aimed at enhancing cooperation in combating terrorism, narcotics trafficking, and organised crime. The agreement was signed during a meeting between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Turkish counterpart, Mustafa Çiftçi, in Istanbul.

During the meeting, both ministers agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to strengthen collaboration between their interior ministries. This group will focus on technical assistance, exchange of experts, and joint initiatives in various fields, including cyber policing and the Anti-Narcotics Force.

The agreement also covers the National Police Academy and other relevant areas, with both sides committing to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation. The Turkish interior minister acknowledged the remarkable reduction in illegal immigration from Pakistan to Turkiye, which has declined from 70 per cent to 17 per cent, appreciating Pakistan’s measures.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed his Turkish counterpart on the positive results of Pakistan’s crackdown against the illegal immigration mafia. The Turkish interior minister expressed satisfaction with the progress made and reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, Mr Naqvi arrived in Istanbul on an official visit to Turkiye, where he received a warm welcome at the airport. The visit underscores the importance of ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the two countries in addressing shared security challenges.
