The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has introduced a new requirement for the registration of vehicles in the province. During a meeting with car manufacturers and motor branch directors, DG Excise Umar Sher Chatha issued an order that every new vehicle purchased must be registered before it is delivered to the buyer.
Chatha emphasized the importance of immediate compliance, stating that no vehicle should be handed over until registration is complete. He instructed officials to ensure that all dealers are promptly issued Dealer Vehicle Registration System (DVRS) licences upon submission of their authorised dealer lists.
Currently, 102 dealers across Punjab, including those in Lahore, already hold DVRS licences and offer vehicle registration services. The department has directed all relevant institutions to enforce this new instruction without delay.
According to Chatha, a vehicle purchased with a Punjab CNIC will be registered by the concerned dealer and only handed over once the process is completed. He added that dealers currently charge a service fee of Rs2,000 per vehicle registration, although there are plans for a slight increase to enhance transparency and effectiveness.
The DG Excise further stated that the issuance of DVRS licences will commence as soon as the dealer lists are received by the motor branches. This move is expected to streamline the vehicle registration process and ensure compliance with provincial regulations.
In an effort to maintain order, Chatha has directed all relevant institutions to ensure immediate implementation of these new instructions. The department remains committed to making the system more transparent and effective for both dealers and buyers.
