Yemen's leader announced a major military operation against the Houthis on Sunday. Rashad al-Alimi announced the commencement of military actions aimed at retaking remaining territories and extending state authority.
Alimi called upon the armed forces, security forces, and military formations to continue their missions until the country is liberated from the Houthi terrorist militia. Houthi forces previously cut off a supply route leading to Taiz.
Furthermore, a police source in the area reported that Houthi forces took control of the al-Safiya area, seizing the main road and the local police station in Taiz. Military sources confirmed that Houthi forces halted traffic on the main road connecting Taiz to Aden.
Farea Al-Muslimi stated that the Houthis achieved the military objective of isolating Taiz from Aden. Houthi's Al-Masirah TV reported that Saudi strikes occurred in the al-Jawf and Saada governorates, resulting in at least two people being wounded.
Yemen's government forces also struck Houthi targets located in Sanaa, Saada, and near Taiz. The war in Yemen reignited in July.
The conflict between Houthis and government-aligned forces mostly paused following a truce in 2022. Hostilities resumed this year after the Houthis declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia in July.
Saudi Arabia responded by conducting air strikes in Yemen and supporting government forces fighting to repel the Houthis.
