Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud described the Houthi movement as a terrorist group that the international community underestimated, comparing them to ISIS before the group captured Mosul in Iraq. The Princess called the recent Houthi missile strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on 10 October "an act of terrorism, pure, simple and evil."
Thirteen people died in the strike on the Saudi airport. Since 1 March 2016, the Houthis have launched more than 1,000 drones and ballistic missiles into Saudi Arabia.
Oil prices rose above 100 dollars per barrel this month as Houthi strikes targeted Saudi energy facilities. The group has threatened to block the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a waterway that handles approximately 10 percent of global trade.
Reports indicate the Houthis sent thousands of children into combat and forced students as young as 10 to chant "Death to America." The United States has designated the Houthis as a terrorist organization.
Saudi Arabia has shut its financial system to the Houthis, while Yemeni government forces seized over 750 tons of weapons intended for the group.
