South Korean President Lee Jae-myung stated that Seoul will implement further measures should Ukraine decline to issue a public apology regarding the disclosure of North Korean Prisoners of War transfers. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed the transfer of two soldiers who were captured while fighting for Russia at the United Nations last week.
These Prisoners of War were taken into custody by Ukrainian forces earlier this year. South Korea has formally demanded that Ukraine issue an official apology for the matter.
The matter, according to Lee Jae-myung, relates to the dignity of the Republic of Korea and its people. When questioned, Andrii Sybiha suggested the situation should not be termed an incident, calling it a diplomatic misunderstanding.
Despite the tension, Andrii Sybiha also noted that South Korea remains an important country for Ukraine. Furthermore, South Korea has become a major exporter of weaponry since Russia initiated its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in early 2022.
South Korean president stated, "If Ukraine continues to refuse to acknowledge the facts and publicly apologise, we will take further measures."
