US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Moscow to discuss a plan to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to multiple sources.

The envoys, sent by US President Donald Trump, are expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday, as reported by US outlet Axios.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of trying to disrupt the envoys' visit with overnight strikes on Kyiv’s two airports and a civilian target in the Dnipro region, which killed five people.

Zelensky stated that these strikes were a reaction to the discussions and preparations for the possibility of the US side using an aircraft to travel to Ukraine, adding that there would be “no threats to diplomacy” from the Ukrainian side.

The visit is the first time that Witkoff and Kushner have visited war-torn Kyiv since Trump returned to office last year with a pledge to resolve the conflict.

Ukrainian airspace has been closed since 2022 due to the war, making it highly unusual for visiting leaders and officials to travel by plane.

The envoys are expected to travel to Kyiv on Sunday, a senior Ukrainian official told AFP, while US outlet Axios reported they would meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday.

Trump suggested on Friday a new proposal to end the war, without providing any details on what his new plan might be. His efforts have so far yielded little results.
