Used smartphones dominate Pakistan's mobile phone imports in September

Pakistan imported 105,121 used smartphones in September, amounting to a value of $14.03 million. Used smartphones constituted the majority of all fully built phones brought into Pakistan during September.
In contrast, only 23,616 new fully built mobile phones entered the country in September, valued at $19.40 million. Collectively, imports of both new and used fully built smartphones reached 128,737 units in September, with a combined worth of $33.43 million.
Specifically, used smartphones represented nearly 82 percent of the total fully built phones imported. Local smartphone production saw a decline, registering 628,030 units in September.
Furthermore, local manufacturers managed to produce 1.053 million feature phones during September. Aamir Allahwala, senior vice president of the Pakistan Mobile Phone Manufacturers Association, warned that factories might face closure if local manufacturing proves commercially unsustainable.
