Accuracy

We check facts before we publish and say so when something is not yet confirmed. We attribute information to its source and make clear what is reporting and what is opinion.

Fairness

We try to reflect the range of views on a story and give people a fair chance to respond to significant claims made about them.

Independence

Our editorial decisions are our own. Staff are expected to avoid conflicts of interest and not to accept gifts or favours that could influence coverage.

Sources

We protect people who ask not to be named and use anonymous sources only when there is good reason to.
