Javier Giner's film, titled “This Solitude,” premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival’s New Directors section on 23 September. The film stars Pal, Marina Salas, Gemma Martínez, Kai Etxaniz, and Itziar Lazkano.
Oriol Pla secured the International Emmy for Best Actor for his performance in the movie. Filmax plans to release the film in Spanish cinemas on 30 October.
The narrative explores the loneliness epidemic, suggesting that the film also examines absent parents, both physically and emotionally. Javier Giner, who also co-wrote the film with Luisa Matienzo, stated that the autobiography within “Esta Soledad” resides in the gaze and the emotions.
Furthermore, Giner noted that loving someone and understanding how to love someone represent two distinct concepts. The director also suggested that Bilbao is depicted as a state of mind rather than merely a sad city.
In a separate comment, Javier Giner asserted that cities do not change when people suffer; rather, the perspective of the people viewing them shifts.
