  • Her condition is not considered life-threatening, but recovery may take days or weeks.
  • T-Boz's health and recovery remain TLC's highest priority.

TLC's Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins has been notably absent from several recent dates of the It's Iconic tour due to a sickle cell crisis that sent her to the hospital.

In a statement on Twitter, TLC addressed the situation, thanking fans for their support and concern, and explaining that T-Boz has been living with sickle cell disease throughout her life.

A sickle cell crisis occurs when sickled cells block blood vessels, causing painful symptoms that may require brief hospitalization, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

During a recent show in Connecticut, fellow bandmate Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas addressed T-Boz's absence, stating, 'Obviously my sister is not here right now. She has sickle cell. I think most of you know all the stuff that goes on with TLC, but when she has, you know, an episode — which is what’s happening right now. But she’s so much better, and I want to ask each and every one of you to help me hold her down tonight. So, thank you in advance for your support and understanding.'

A group spokesperson told USA Today that T-Boz was recently hospitalized and is recovering, adding, 'Her health and recovery remain our highest priority. Tionne looks forward to returning to the tour when she is fully recovered and medically cleared to perform.'

The spokesperson also mentioned that TLC is continuing the tour with Chilli performing and receiving support from Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue, as well as the fans.

The group is using this opportunity to raise awareness about sickle cell disease, with a message encouraging fans to learn more about the disease or give blood if they are able.

September is sickle cell awareness month, and TLC is asking fans to stand with the community and support those affected by the disease.
