Punjab Hospitals to Digitize Medico-Legal Reports

Key Takeaways

  • The Punjab government has mandated the digitization of medico-legal certificates and reports.
  • Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique chaired a meeting to review the decision.
  • Medical superintendents are responsible for implementing the new system.

The Punjab government has announced that all government teaching hospitals across the province will shift from manual to digital issuance of medico-legal certificates and reports. This move, directed by Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique, aims to modernize the existing reporting system.

During a meeting held on 16 July 2026, key representatives from the healthcare department, hospital administrators, and other relevant officials were present. The minister emphasized the immediate implementation of this decision, directing medical superintendents to take full responsibility for its execution.

Specialized Healthcare Secretary Azmat Mehmood clarified that manual medico-legal reports will no longer be accepted under any circumstances. He instructed the relevant authorities to complete all necessary arrangements as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition to the digital system.

The decision is part of an ongoing effort by the government to enhance healthcare services and improve efficiency in the medical sector. By moving towards digitization, hospitals can reduce errors, increase transparency, and provide faster access to critical health information.

Medical superintendents are expected to work closely with IT departments to ensure that all necessary infrastructure is in place. This includes training staff on how to use the new digital system effectively and ensuring that all required software and hardware meet the standards set by the government.

The shift towards a digital system will also facilitate better record-keeping, making it easier for healthcare professionals to access patient information quickly during emergencies or legal proceedings. It is anticipated that this move will significantly reduce delays in issuing medico-legal reports, thereby improving overall service delivery.
