Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has initiated a significant development project aimed at improving infrastructure in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE).
The Rs. 2 billion package will focus on rehabilitating major roads, drainage and sewerage systems, green belts, and other municipal facilities within SITE.
Wahab highlighted that the Sindh government has allocated a total of Rs. 9.5 billion for the rehabilitation of industrial areas across Karachi, with trade and industrial associations overseeing the development work.
The mayor explained that this new system allows trade associations to identify priority projects, select contractors, and choose construction materials, thereby accelerating the pace of development.
He emphasized the collaboration between provincial and local governments in improving infrastructure and removing obstacles that have previously delayed such projects.
In addition to the SITE development, Wahab announced plans for the TP-1 Sewage Treatment Plant, which is set to begin operations shortly with a treatment capacity of 35 million gallons per day (MGD).
The city’s plan includes adding another 65 MGD by December, bringing the total additional treatment capacity to 100 MGD.
Wahab stated that these initiatives are part of broader efforts to enhance Karachi's infrastructure and address environmental concerns in industrial areas.
