The convocations were attended by key figures including Pro-Chancellor Abdul Razak Dawood, Rector Shahid Hussain, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Cheema, members of the Board of Trustees, deans, and distinguished faculty members. In his address, Dr. Cheema highlighted LUMS' forty-year legacy and emphasized that institutions should contribute to society by helping individuals realize their potential.
The ceremonies also recognized outstanding academic achievement among the graduating class. This year’s valedictorians were Ali Abbas Gilani (BA-LL.B), Ahmad Ashraf (BS Computer Science), Hiba Humayun (BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance), and Maheen Mashhood (BA (Hons) History). In their addresses, the valedictorians shared stories of growth, resilience, and gratitude towards their families, mentors, faculty members, and classmates.
Four distinguished speakers delivered keynote addresses. Neha Mankani, Founder of the Mama Baby Fund, encouraged graduates to remain curious and use their education to address societal challenges. Zia Akhter Abbas, President and CEO of The Citizens Foundation, urged graduates to embrace humility and approach life’s uncertainties with courage and responsibility. Salima Hashmi, an artist, curator, and contemporary art historian, inspired graduates to lead with creativity and compassion. Amir Husain, entrepreneur and author, encouraged lifelong learning and optimism in a rapidly evolving world.
The convocations not only honored the achievements of the graduating class but also welcomed them into LUMS’ global alumni community. As they prepare for their next chapter, these young professionals are set to make significant contributions to various fields, carrying forward the values instilled by LUMS.
As we celebrate forty years of LUMS, it is worth remembering that institutions are ultimately judged by the people they send into the world.
