Balochistan Government Reorganizes Administrative Structure

Balochistan Government Reorganizes Administrative Structure

Key Takeaways

  • The Balochistan government has established new divisions and districts, increasing the total to 11 divisions and 41 districts.
  • Quetta district has been divided into Quetta East and Quetta West, with Mastung district transferred from Kalat Division.
  • Kalat Division has been abolished, replaced by Khuzdar and Lasbela divisions.

The Balochistan government has issued an official notification reorganizing the province's administrative structure. The new setup includes 11 divisions and 41 districts, up from the previous 8 divisions and 36 districts.

Under the new divisional system, Quetta district has been split into two: Quetta East and Quetta West. Quetta East will encompass Sariab, Saddar, and City subdivisions, while Quetta West will include Kuchlak, Brewery, and Panjpai.

The government has also separated Mastung district from the former Kalat Division and added it to Quetta Division, making Quetta Division consist of three districts: Quetta East, Quetta West, and Mastung. This move reflects a significant administrative change within the province.

Kalat Division has been abolished and replaced with two new divisions named Khuzdar and Lasbela. Khuzdar Division will include Khuzdar, Kalat, Surab, and the newly created Wadh district, while Lasbela Division will comprise Lasbela, Hub, and Awaran districts.

The government has also established a new Pishin Division, which includes Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, and the newly created Barshore district. Barshore was formed by dividing the former Pishin district into two separate administrative units.

Another notable change is the renaming of Sibi Division to Sevi Division. Under the new structure, Sevi Division will consist of Sevi, South Dera Bugti, and Kachhi districts. These changes have raised the total number of divisions in Balochistan to 11 and the number of districts to 41.

The provincial Revenue Department issued these notifications after decisions approved by the Balochistan cabinet. The administrative restructuring is aimed at improving governance and service delivery across the province.
