The Sindh government has set a firm completion deadline for five major highway projects, worth Rs. 140.91 billion, with June 2027 as the target date. These projects, which include the Sindh Coastal Highway, Mehran Highway, Rohri Guddu Road, Tando Allahyar Tando Adam Dual Carriageway, and Sanghar Rohri Road, are being carried out under the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) in collaboration with the provincial government.

According to officials present at a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the combined cost of these projects is Rs. 140.91 billion, with the federal government contributing Rs. 96.75 billion and the Sindh government Rs. 44.15 billion. The meeting aimed to review progress on each project and ensure that construction remains on schedule.

Construction has already commenced on several sections of these highways. For instance, work began on the 36-kilometer extension of the Sindh Coastal Highway in June 2026, estimated at Rs. 37.7 billion. The Mehran Highway, a 150-kilometer project costing Rs. 17.79 billion, has seen asphalt base work completed on 44 kilometers.

The Tando Allahyar Tando Adam Dual Carriageway project, worth Rs. 9.28 billion, is facing challenges such as utility relocation and transmission line shifting, but construction continues. The Nawabshah Ranipur dualization project, valued at Rs. 41.03 billion, is progressing well, while the Sanghar Rohri Road project, costing Rs. 35.08 billion, has completed road widening and base work on key sections.

Participants in the meeting emphasized the need for timely release of federal funds to ensure that all projects are completed by the set deadline. The Chief Minister stated, 'We must work together to ensure these vital infrastructure projects are completed within the stipulated time frame.'

The committee was informed that construction on the Sindh Coastal Highway extension is progressing well, with work expected to be completed soon. Similarly, asphalt laying is anticipated to begin shortly on sections of the Sanghar Rohri Road project.

Despite varying progress across different projects, officials are optimistic about meeting the June 2027 deadline. The Chief Minister added, 'We have a clear roadmap and we will ensure that all necessary steps are taken to complete these projects on time.'

The completion of these highways is expected to significantly improve transportation infrastructure in Sindh, reducing travel times and enhancing economic growth.
