Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has taken significant steps towards improving data governance in Pakistan’s power sector. At a meeting of the country's first-ever Public Sector Data Governance Council, he outlined plans to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency through better data management.

During the meeting, participants discussed measures to strengthen data governance across the power sector. The Minister was briefed on the proposed institutional structure of the council, which is designed to establish uniform data standards and improve overall transparency and accountability in the sector.

In his address, Leghari emphasized the importance of reliable and integrated data for effective decision-making. He stated that the Data Governance Council will play a crucial role in achieving this by ensuring consistent data practices throughout the power sector. This initiative is part of the Government’s broader commitment to promoting digital governance and data-driven decision-making.

To ensure the council operates at full capacity, Leghari directed that the appointment of an Executive Director be completed as soon as possible. He also instructed the formation of an Executive Working Committee to support the implementation of the Council's decisions and monitor progress on ongoing work. Regular meetings are planned to review progress and maintain momentum on key initiatives.

The Minister highlighted that better use of data will improve the performance of the power sector, leading to more efficient resource utilization and strengthened planning and decision-making processes. He noted that these efforts will contribute to building a more efficient and better-managed power sector, which is essential for Pakistan’s economic growth and development.

Speaking at the meeting, Leghari reaffirmed the Government's commitment to digital governance and data-driven initiatives. He stated that these measures are critical for addressing the challenges faced by the power sector and ensuring sustainable progress in this vital industry.
