The live-action series 'The Remarried Empress' premiered on Disney+ and Hulu in the United States.
Streamers released the show one day ahead of schedule as a special thank you to fans for their overwhelming support. Studio N produced the 10-episode series, which launched with four initial episodes. Two episodes will be released every Wednesday until 25 November.
The production team scouted castles in France, Germany, and the Czech Republic before selecting Schleissheim Palace outside Munich as the primary location. Cho Su-won, who directed 'I Can Hear Your Voice' and 'Pinocchio', directed the series based on scripts by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choong-yeol of 'The Uncanny Counter'.
The series is based on a web novel by Alphatart that first appeared in 2018.
Actor Ju Ji-hoon said, “Love, divorce, entanglement, the struggle for power, all make for a fascinating subject matter.”
Lee Se-young, who played a character intended to be a seed of conflict, said, “Because she has to be a character who can become the seed of conflict, I considered that first and then built the character from there.”
Lee Se-young added, “At the same time, I tried to make her a character you resent but can’t quite hate.”
Actor Shin noted that she had high expectations about the balance of the series and thought the locations “would look beautiful on screen.”
Shin observed, “When [they] are gathered in one space, there’s more tension,” but she also noted, “But the narratives they carry are different from ours.”
Shin stated, “So I looked at those as references, but then I focused on the script itself.”
Lee Jong-suk, known for 'Pinocchio' and 'Big Mouth', remarked, “It’s something totally new for a Korean series.” Disney has cited Kang Full’s 'Moving' as an unexpected international hit, while its second season began shooting in May.
