The BBC plans to save £500 million, which includes shedding up to 2,000 employees across its operations in the United Kingdom. The corporation's cash revenues experienced a worrying decline over the past year.

Specific departmental reductions include 110 compulsory redundancies within the media technology division, alongside 280 roles closing in that same area. Furthermore, the BBC announced a reduction in local news correspondents and stated that local radio services would become more regional.

Staff in the children's television division were asked to take voluntary redundancy. BBC Scotland and BBC Three are expected to transition into online-only channels.

Peter Levy stated that the cuts are beginning, adding that 'BBC cuts are starting.' Regarding the financial pressures, Matt Brittin was reportedly not fully aware of the financial difficulties when he accepted the role.

Future plans for the BBC will be shaped by weekly discussions between the BBC and the government concerning the funding model.
