Bafta confirmed that John Davidson will attend the Bafta Scotland awards and observe the ceremony from a separate relaxed space. The Bafta chair, Sara Putt, and CEO Jane Millichip sent a letter to Bafta members on Thursday. The Bafta Scotland awards are scheduled to take place in November. John Davidson will watch the Bafta Scotland ceremony via video link from a separate relaxed space within the venue alongside his family and friends. The film I Swear, which details Davidson's upbringing with Tourette syndrome in Scotland during the 1980s, has secured seven nominations at the Bafta Scotland awards.
Previously, John Davidson was heard shouting several times during a ceremony, including using the N-word while actors Delroy Lindo and Michael B Jordan presented the evening’s first prize. The BBC issued an apology because Davidson’s outburst was audible during the network's coverage of the event. Furthermore, the BBC apologized for not editing out the slur from its BBC One broadcast, which aired on a two-hour delay. Following the incident, Bafta thanked Davidson for his "dignity and consideration of others." The organisation also apologised for placing guests in a difficult situation and pledged to keep inclusion central to its work. Bafta Scotland worked with inclusion experts to facilitate Davidson's participation in the forthcoming Glasgow ceremony. The winners for the awards will be announced on 15 November at a ceremony in Glasgow.
