Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar directed the formulation of a comprehensive strategy on Monday to revive the Pakistan Television (PTV) Drama and Film Academy as a modern training institution.
Tarar chaired a high-level meeting to review plans for revamping PTV Home and restoring the academy, with Federal Secretary for Information Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil and other senior ministry officials in attendance. Pakistan will launch an advanced training programme in colour grading for the first time, a move Tarar said would prevent professionals from having to travel abroad to access such specialised facilities.
Tarar added that providing these advanced facilities would offer the private sector and the film industry modern technical resources to improve the quality of local filmmaking.
“Equipping young people with practical skills in filmmaking, drama production, editing, colour grading and digital content creation is among our key priorities,” Tarar said. Officials reviewed proposals to develop a comprehensive curriculum, appoint trainers and technical staff, and establish studio laboratories and modern classrooms with student workstations.
Tarar said students would be trained in a professional environment featuring technical equipment and modern editing suites. He emphasised that the programmes would focus on practical assignments, project development, and portfolio building rather than just theoretical knowledge to enhance the professional capabilities of participants.
Tarar noted that efforts would be made to ensure the financial sustainability of the PTV Academy while transforming it into an effective professional training centre.
