Dodik declares victory in Bosnia election; ally secures presidency seat

Milorad Dodik declared victory for his party in an election in Bosnia. His ally, Željka Cvijanović, secured more than 55% of the votes required to claim one of the three seats on the country’s tripartite presidency.
The total number of votes cast across the election reached 1,432,269. Voters participated at a rate of 42%, which represents a decline of approximately 8% compared to Bosnia’s election in 2022.
Dodik stated to his supporters that Bosnia “is dead”. Furthermore, the conflict in the region began in 1992, resulting in the deaths of over 100,000 people.
In other electoral developments, Darijana Filipović maintained a strong lead for the Croat seat on the presidency. Denis Bećirović led his closest rival, Bakir Izetbegović, by a margin of less than three percentage points.
