Medvedev disqualified from China Open semi-final after hitting ball into spectator

Daniil Medvedev was disqualified from his China Open semi-final match against Novak Djokovic after hitting a rebounding ball into the crowd, striking a spectator in the eye. The incident occurred during a match where Medvedev was world number five.
Prior to the disqualification, Medvedev was leading the contest, having been up 7-5 5-3 on Monday. Djokovic expressed shock following the event, stating, "I was shocked, to be honest… I hope that person is not badly injured."
Djokovic previously faced similar disqualification circumstances at the US Open in 2020. Separately, Hubert Hurkacz withdrew from play earlier on Monday due to an adductor injury.
In another fixture, Alex de Minaur led the first semi with a score of 6-4 3-2. De Minaur's Polish opponent subsequently retired from the match.
