Google unveiled the Fitbit Edge health and fitness tracker to provide a mid-range wearable option between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch. The device supports more than 50 exercise modes and features an IP68 rating for resistance against dust and water.
Google stated the Fitbit Edge delivers a 40% improvement in GPS tracking accuracy compared with previous models and provides sleep-stage detection that is 15% more accurate. Continuous heart-rate monitoring and rhythm assessments via an ECG app are included in the hardware.
Health Guardian was also added by Google to identify major changes in health metrics over time. A 65mAh battery powers the tracker, which Google says can last up to 7 days on a full charge.
Charging the device takes around 90 minutes, while just 5 minutes of power can sustain a full day of use. The battery is replaceable in the Fitbit Edge.
Preorders for the tracker start at $179.99, with a Stephen Curry Special Edition available from $219.99. The product will reach stores on 27 October and every purchase includes three months of Google Health Premium.
