Apple introduced a new generation of iMac computers featuring M6 chips on 27 October. The company revealed the update ahead of its "Pro and Tell" event scheduled for 28 October.
Prices for the new models begin at $1,499. The M6 represents the first 2nm chip from Apple and includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine.
According to Apple’s press release, the new processor "delivers up to 5x faster on-device AI performance". Configurations starting at $1,499 include a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU.
A 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU option is available starting at $1,699. Preorders for the devices open at 1:10PM ET on 28 October, with full availability starting 6 November.
The iMac incorporates the N1 wireless networking chip, providing Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 on the base model. Hardware ports vary by configuration, with the 10-core version offering 2 Thunderbolt ports and the 12-core upgrade providing 4 Thunderbolt ports.
Ethernet speeds have increased from 1 gigabit to 2.5 gigabit, which is available as a $30 premium upgrade. Users can swap a Magic Mouse for a Magic Trackpad for an additional $50, but Apple will not allow a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID without a numeric keypad on the M6 iMac.
