Warwickshire secured the County Championship title during the final match on Saturday, confirming their victory. Somerset finished the season in second place in the County Championship standings.
The Somerset team remains one of three counties that have never managed to win the Championship. Yorkshire defeated Somerset by 75 runs at Headingley, following a first-innings deficit of 112 runs.
Earlier in the month, Glamorgan won by two wickets in Cardiff. Andy Hurry, Somerset director of cricket, pointed to back-to-back defeats suffered by Yorkshire in Taunton and Glamorgan in Cardiff during May.
Regarding the season's results, Hurry stated that Somerset did not achieve the desired outcome in several games. Lewis Gregory suggested that the players will improve based on the experience gained throughout this year.
The bowling unit, according to Hurry, was phenomenal, and the top six players contributed well in 2026. Furthermore, Hurry stressed that winning trophies consistently is very important to Somerset.
