Atletico Madrid filed a formal complaint against Barcelona on 27 October regarding the treatment of Julian Alvarez. The Spanish club alleged that Barcelona contacted Alvarez without providing the required written notification to Atletico Madrid.

This sanction falls under Article 133 of the federation's regulations. FIFA stated it had no jurisdiction over the specific case.

Alvarez currently holds a contract with Atletico Madrid that remains valid until June 2030. The striker scored the winning goal for Atletico against Deportivo La Coruna on 24 October.

This marked the second consecutive match in which Alvarez scored for his team. Atletico moved to within two points of Barcelona in the LaLiga standings following the result.

Alvarez previously expressed a desire to join Barcelona during an interview at the 2026 World Cup. Alvarez said, "It was a mistake. I understand why the fans are angry. If I were a fan, I'd be angry too. Especially given how they've supported me since I arrived."

The player noted he wanted to fulfil his dream.
