Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the immediate implementation of reforms across all government schools in Islamabad. The prime minister ordered that the issues facing these institutions be resolved within one week.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal was tasked by the prime minister to ensure these problems are fixed within the set timeframe. New initiatives include the activation of a free lunch programme and the rapid installation of smart boards in all government schools.
To improve administrative efficiency, the prime minister called for a strategy to transform the Federal Directorate of Education into a more effective institution. Teachers in government schools must focus exclusively on educational activities, while the prime minister mandated that new recruitment be conducted strictly on merit.
Transportation improvements will involve expanding the government school bus service and outsourcing these services with third-party validation. Authorities were also instructed to promote solarisation, install ramps for students with physical disabilities, and provide quality medical facilities.
Officials presented a survey report on the curriculum and infrastructure of schools in the federal capital, which was conducted following the prime minister's directions in September 2026. The report found that most schools possessed basic facilities like internet connectivity, computer laboratories, and clean drinking water, though some infrastructure issues remained.
Currently, 278 government buses operate across Islamabad to transport students. Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Dr Musadik Masood Malik, Attaullah Tarar, and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui attended the meeting, alongside Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani.
