Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approves safety rules for sewerage cleaning

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved comprehensive safety rules for sewerage cleaning operations to protect municipal workers. New standard operating procedures now make the use of protective measures mandatory for all staff involved in these tasks.
Workers are strictly prohibited from approaching or opening manholes until they have verified that no toxic gases are present. Entry into these structures is banned unless a formal inspection of gas levels has been completed first.
A committee led by Additional Chief Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo drafted these specific guidelines for the province. Teams are required to set up warning boards, traffic signs, and protective barricades around all active work sites.
Only personnel who have received specific training are permitted to operate suction and jetting machines. The guidelines establish a compulsory "permit-to-work" system that requires advance permission before any individual enters a manhole.
