Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq has ordered a comprehensive digital monitoring system for loader rickshaws to curb littering and enforce anti-smog measures.
At a meeting held at the Suthra Punjab Authority office, Rafiq instructed Field Monitoring Officers to remain present in Union Councils and ensure compliance with the Environment Department’s directives.
Secretary Local Government Zaid bin Maqsood and DG Suthra Punjab Authority Umar Javed attended the meeting, along with commissioners and managing directors from Multan, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Faisalabad, who joined via video link.
Officials briefed the meeting on waste collection points, waste enclosures, and the ongoing geospatial mapping of Union Councils.
Rafiq emphasized the importance of digital monitoring, stating that the movement of loader rickshaws would be tracked in each beat to prevent littering and ensure proper waste management.
He directed officials to shift waste from temporary collection points to dumping sites without delay, and to report crop-burning incidents to the assistant commissioner.
During the smog season, Rafiq asked officials to use mechanical sweepers instead of manual road cleaning to maintain cleanliness and reduce pollution.
The measures aim to improve the overall environment and public health in Punjab, addressing the issues of littering and smog effectively.
