The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has significantly increased its content regulation efforts, blocking over 1.5 million URLs out of 1,726,303 processed complaints as of July 2026.

According to the Web Analysis Division (WAD) of the PTA, nearly 90% of all reported URLs were blocked, reflecting a robust enforcement mechanism against various categories of content.

The largest share of blocked content falls under the 'Decency and Morality' category, where 1,065,671 out of 1,075,762 processed cases were blocked, accounting for nearly 69% of all blocked URLs. This rate stands at a staggering 99.06%.

Among social media platforms, Facebook topped the list with 230,270 blocked URLs out of 287,362 processed complaints. TikTok followed closely with 170,231 blocked URLs and Twitter (X) had 74,236 blocked URLs.

YouTube recorded the highest blocking rate among major platforms at 88.6%, with 66,290 of 74,823 URLs blocked. WhatsApp saw a block rate of 90.53% with 50,165 URLs blocked, while Instagram had 45,510 URLs blocked (83.76%).

Other significant categories included Terrorism (79.15%), Against Glory of Islam (82.17%), and Contempt of Court (76.28%). The PTA also blocked proxy websites with a 99.99% blocking rate.

The data further shows that 76,874 cases remain under review, while 106,629 requests were rejected by the authority. This highlights the ongoing scrutiny and strict enforcement of online content regulations in Pakistan.

The PTA’s actions reflect a commitment to maintaining public decency and morality, as well as addressing security concerns and defamatory content.
