Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a two-hour limit on power cuts in any area of Pakistan, following a meeting in Islamabad to review the country’s electricity load management situation.
The directive was issued in response to increased electricity load shedding in various parts of the country, which has been exacerbated by disruptions in the supply of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), according to the PM Office.
The prime minister emphasized the need to address the regional situation and future energy requirements, directing relevant authorities to take immediate measures to address RLNG supply disruptions.
To ensure effective load management, PM Shehbaz ordered the effective utilisation of all available resources, including the establishment of Consumer Grievance Redressal Committees at the level of power distribution companies (Discos).
These committees, which will include public representatives, are to be made fully functional within one week, as per the prime minister’s directive.
The meeting was informed that, except for six electricity consumers in Rajanpur district, power supply to consumers across the country was currently not being affected by the recent monsoon rains.
The prime minister also instructed that electricity consumers could register complaints through the 118 helpline, following which they are provided with a token number and an estimated timeframe for resolution.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking government officials, including Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, and Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik.
