  • Petrol prices have fluctuated significantly over the past few months.

The federal government has announced a reduction in the price of motor spirit (MS) petrol to Rs. 379.31 per litre, effective immediately. This decision follows a series of daily revisions to fuel rates, which have seen significant fluctuations over the past few months.

On Tuesday, October 20, the price of petrol was increased to Rs. 382.02 per litre, marking the highest price in the recent period. Since then, the price has decreased by Rs. 2.71 to the current level.

In contrast, diesel prices have seen a slight increase, rising to Rs. 390.11 per litre, up by Rs. 0.31 from the previous day's rate.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has been responsible for daily revisions to the fuel rates, reflecting the volatile global market and local economic conditions.

Since the beginning of the daily fuel rates update, petrol prices have increased by Rs. 68.6 per litre and diesel by Rs. 66.81 per litre. This fluctuation highlights the ongoing challenges in managing fuel prices in the face of global market dynamics.

The price of petrol was last increased on October 16, 2026, to Rs. 386.30 per litre, while diesel was increased to Rs. 396.96 per litre on the same day. These increases were part of a broader trend of rising fuel prices over the past few months.

The government's decision to reduce petrol prices comes as a relief to consumers, who have been facing higher costs over the past few weeks. The reduction is expected to have a positive impact on the overall economy, particularly in sectors heavily reliant on transportation.

The fluctuating nature of fuel prices underscores the need for a more stable and transparent pricing mechanism. OGRA continues to monitor global market trends and local economic conditions to ensure that fuel prices remain competitive and affordable for the public.
