Ken Paxton admitted that outside forces from Washington DC controlled his Texas Senate campaign efforts. Speaking at the Republican convention in Dallas on 9 September, Paxton stated, "I don’t control message or what we’re doing."
Paxton is currently running against James Talarico for the Texas Senate seat. Polling data suggests Talarico holds a lead over Paxton; a New York Times/Siena College poll placed Talarico at 51% and Paxton at 45% among likely Texas voters.
Furthermore, a Fox News survey indicated Talarico at 51% and Paxton at 49% among likely voters. A Marist University poll reported Talarico with 50% and Paxton with 44% among registered voters.
Paxton also acknowledged that the Republican National Convention for the midterms caused his polling numbers to decline. Separately, Nick Maddux stated that campaigns do not coordinate with Super Pacs.
Trump chose Paxton to contest Talarico for the Senate race. The record shows that Paxton faced impeachment in 2023 over allegations including bribery and abuse of public trust.
Angela Paxton divorced Ken Paxton on "biblical grounds," citing adultery.
