Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday to discuss security matters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Both leaders voiced worries regarding the potential for terrorists to cross security checkpoints safely.
Furthermore, the leaders concurred that the Governor’s House would fulfil its full constitutional function should the President and Prime Minister impose governor’s rule or an emergency. Governor House stated that the KP government’s approach during talks on counterterrorism actions amounted to enmity towards the people and the province.
Naqvi and Kundi also labelled the use of helicopters and other state resources by Afridi and provincial ministers for the march as a clear breach of the IHC verdict. Mr Kundi confirmed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfikar Hameed attended the meeting.
The governor stated, “The security of our people remains our foremost priority. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sacrificed enough, and every institution must work together to protect our people and defeat terrorism”. A government source informed Dawn that the administration was seriously considering imposing governor’s rule in KP.
Moreover, a source claimed the government considered its demands for KP’s help in curbing terrorism to be genuine and rightful, suggesting an emergency imposition was near.
