The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) dropped contempt proceedings against Adiala jail officials after the powers of attorney for Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha were signed. Judge Tahir Abbas Supra dropped the proceedings following the signing of the powers of attorney for Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha.
Furthermore, the ATC issued a show-cause notice to the Adiala jail superintendent. The court also directed the superintendent to formulate rules concerning the signing of powers of attorney.
During the hearing, lawyers Riasat Ali and Zainab Janjua appeared before the court, with Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha present via video link. Judge Supra questioned the process, stating, "If this is happening with lawyers, what happens to the vakalatnamas of ordinary people?"
The court disposed of the petition concerning the powers of attorney of Mazari and Chatha. The court provided the challan in the case to the lawyers representing the couple, noting that charges would be framed against the two accused at the subsequent hearing.
Proceedings were adjourned and set for 6 October for the indictment. Separately, the Supreme Court suspended the couple's sentences and granted them bail in another case.
The Supreme Court granted bail against surety bonds valued at 200,000 Rupees for each individual. The couple faced initial arrest and subsequent judicial remand back to Adiala jail by an ATC.
The initial booking for the couple occurred by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency under Sections 9, 10, 11, and 26 of Peca. A district and sessions court in Islamabad had previously sentenced Mazari and Chattha to 17 years in prison each.
The couple challenged this sentence by filing a case with the IHC in early February.
