Pakistan Punjab Govt Delays Historic Road Naming Project Amid Backlash

The Lahore Heritage Areas Revival (LHAR), a group led by former PM Sharif, had suggested restoring original historical names of roads and streets in the city. However, after facing backlash from some extremist elements including social media influencers known as vloggers who labeled it as an affront to religious sentiments, Lahore’s government has put a hold on the decision.

The Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and President Nawaz Sharif held discussions but decided not to proceed with restoring historical names amid fear of sparking controversy. The original intent was respect for heritage, now overshadowed by religious sensitivities.
