Mari Energies Limited has secured a significant contract for the sale of natural gas from its Spinwam discovery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The company has awarded the deal to Universal Gas Distribution Company (Pvt.) Ltd., marking an important step towards commercializing the field.

The agreement involves the purchase and sale of up to 17.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas from the Spinwam discovery, located in the Waziristan Block. This development follows a competitive bidding process initiated through an invitation published on May 15, 2026.

Mari Energies is the operator of the Waziristan Block with a 55% working interest, while Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) holds 35%, and Orient Petroleum Inc. owns the remaining 10% stake in the joint venture. The company announced initial gas and condensate discoveries at Spinwam-1 exploratory well in February 2025.

Subsequent discoveries from the Kawagarh, Hangu, and Lockhart formations confirmed the multi-zone production potential of the well. Production under the Extended Well Testing (EWT) phase commenced in April 2026, initially producing around 40 MMscfd of gas and 200 barrels of condensate per day.

Total output from the Shewa and Spinwam fields was lifted to about 100 MMscfd. Mari Energies stated that the parties will now seek necessary regulatory and other approvals required under the government’s Framework for Sale of Gas to Third Parties, notified through S.R.O. 11(I)/2025.

The company emphasized that these approvals are essential before commercial development can proceed. The deal is expected to significantly boost gas supply in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and contribute to the country's energy security.
