Islamabad Police have announced a strict crackdown on unlicensed and underage driving in the federal capital, with vehicles driven by individuals without valid driving licences to be impounded and released only after the required licence is obtained.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Captain (retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry, made the announcement during a meeting with a delegation from the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association.
The IGP stated that traffic laws prohibiting unlicensed and underage driving would be strictly enforced, with vehicles driven by unlicensed individuals impounded at relevant police stations and returned only after the drivers obtain valid licences.
In cases involving underage drivers, vehicles would be impounded instead of registering criminal cases, and would be released after the parents of the underage drivers appeared at the police station and submitted a written undertaking.
To strengthen operational efficiency, the police have been provided with improved vehicles and increased patrolling to curb street crime, with special attention given to the Safe City Project.
Surveillance cameras are being utilised to prevent and investigate criminal activities, and more than half of the security checkpoints outside the Red Zone have been removed.
The IGP highlighted policing reforms, including the removal of containers from Islamabad, which has allowed normal activities to resume despite challenges faced by the police following his appointment.
The delegation included Association President Malik Asad, General Secretary Asif Naveed, and former presidents Awais Yousafzai, Rizwan Qazi, Hussain Ahmed, and Fayyaz Mahmood, as well as former secretary Ehtesham Kayani and former finance secretary Malik Najeeb.
