The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to various authorities regarding an appeal against the construction of an international cricket stadium and sports arena in Islamabad.

The appeal, filed by Hamid Nawaz and Muhammad Khurram Javed, challenges the dismissal of a petition against the project.

The respondents include the federal government, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Capital Development Authority (CDA), and other relevant bodies.

The petitioners argue that the project, initially allocated in Sector D-12, has been expanded to include a proposed Olympic Village with additional facilities.

They contend that the expanded development would require more land than initially allocated, potentially harming natural landscapes, biodiversity, and wildlife.

The petitioners have asked the court to set aside the single bench’s order that upheld the decision to allocate land for the stadium.

They also seek to have the electronic bidding process, procurement procedures, and related arrangements declared unlawful and quashed.

Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas and Justice Shah Rukh Arjumand of the division bench heard the intra-court appeal.

The court has sought responses from the respondents, and further proceedings will determine the issues raised in the appeal.
